World of Evolver

Welcome to the World of Evolver Wiki. Here you can find information about Evolver including character biographies, location descriptions, historic events, and in-game information. \

Gameplay Overview

Evolver blends competitive fighting with quantum-cyberpunk-scifi to create a world of bizarre weapons, unconventional fighting styles, and wildly eccentric characters. Fighters wield weapons such as hand-held guillotines and giant surgical lancets, and couple them with super powers and martial arts to (sometimes literally) destroy their enemies.

Evolver’s combat mechanics are unique among 2D fighting systems in that it combines elements of traditional fighters with those of platform fighters. It also replaces traditional blocking with a unique evade-and-parry based defense system. Additionally, players choose their attack sets before each round with each character having 15 unique moveset combinations. Evolver’s combo system is friendly to inexperienced players and button mashers thanks to it’s auto combo mechanic, but also rewards seasoned fighting game players who put the time into creating complex attack sequences and mixups.

Lore Overview

In the world of Evolver, during the first world war (commonly referred to as the Good War or the Clever War due to drastic scientific advancement), a Nasimeran scientist named Ebenezer Petralma discovers the semi-physical representation of the human soul. It is descriptively (though not literally) a point particle, the smallest possible form in which any energy can be said to exist non-virtually, akin to an indescribably dense, unfathomably small black hole. He discovers this investigating his theory that only energy traveling faster than the speed of light could and, in fact, would and does escape a black hole, and that an infinitesimally small but super dense black hole would create a source of power with extremely unique properties and abilities. As a result, the energy produced by the “soul particle”, commonly known as senergy, is often referred to in the scientific community as Petralma Radiation.

In modern theory, Petralma Radiation is the cause/effect (though not the source) of all life and consciousness where consciousness is proposed to be a semi-physical super position of cause and effect not yet well understood under the current scientific model. With this in power at hand, people begin consciously manifesting their senergy to manipulate the physical universe, a process now known as transmogrification or senergy reaction and conversion. The practice of transmogrification is known as Physical Deviation, Spacetime Deviation, or simply Deviation, and those who practice deviation are called Reactors or Deviators (or sometimes Deviators). This discovery quickly ends the Good War due to Nasimeran soldiers being trained as reactors to fight against enemies who had yet to dream of Petralma’s theories.

As news of Deviation and Petralma’s theories propagate post war, it quickly becomes apparent that senergy is necessary to sustain the corporeal longevity of human life. An effectively untreatable condition known as Erosion or Rot, a disease that causes rapid aging and physical atrophy as well as mental instability and madness, kills thousands of people and for a short nearly two decades, transmogrification is rarely practiced. Over time, certain martial arts practitioners (and other physical hobbyists) develop forms of transmogrify that rely on senergy to cause reactions with preexisting physical conditions rather than spontaneous transmogrification (e.g. creating thermodynamic energy and then using senergy to amplify or convert that energy). This practice leads to the creation of ArtiSens – Amplifying Radio Transducers Intended for Senergy – objects designed with small capacitor like centers capable of permanently (or temporarily) storing very small amounts senergy; these can be thought of as and are often called Soul Fragments. In a similar fashion to gravity’s interruption of spacetime, these soul fragments are attracted to their original host for as long as their energy is conglomerated i.e. housed in their capacitors. Using the soul fragment as a power node, reactors gain the ability to perform transmogrification that was once only possible through deviation that would cause rot.

Additionally, it is theorized that each soul particle has its own unique configuration or Soul Data that gives way to certain affinities and tendencies that may be conceptualized in a similar fashion to “natural talent”. For example, a unique soul data may have a stronger affinity for thermodynamic energy and thus require less energy output from the deviator for thermodynamic transmogrification. These unique soul data often manifest in a fashion similar to a super power or magical gift. In the case mentioned here, the final output of the unique data may manifest as inherent superhuman speed or pyrokinesis or some combination of the two, etc.

With advancements in computer science, extremely powerful AI programs are created that, when paired with soul fragments, become semi-sentient. These AI are built into the shielding of a soul fragment also called the Fragment Shell. Rosami Uhera, the leader of the team of scientist who created the technology names the AI concept Machine Art. Shortly after Uhera’s discovery, climate change is predicted to make large portions of the earth’s surface uninhabitable, a process referred to as the Corruption. Fear of the Corruption leads to scientists flocking to political office in hopes of taking global action to prevent the Corruption, the most prominent of whom is Lemet Georges, eventual president incumbent of Nasimera. However, as data proves over and again that it is too late to prevent the Corruption, vying over safer land masses eventually leads to the second world war, commonly known as the Last Great War or the Final War which would last for 14 years.

During the war, almost all Nasimeran research is focused on raising a large land mass high enough in the sky to avoid the devastation set to occur on the surface. Little progress is made for several years and the Corruption of the earth’s surface begins. Finally, a technology designed to combine a soul fragment with a slightly larger counterpart (that is not unlike a star’s core) could create a solar energy field strong enough to give lift to a large enough land mass supporting a decent percentage of the human population. This discovery, dubbed Suncloud technology by its co-creator, Auriel Satchworth, leads to the creation of the country state of Avnice which is determined to be the largest location unsusceptible to the Corruption. While Auriel’s theories prove to be accurate, the density of the soul fragment required must be much more than that of even an organic human soul particle. Bedelia Uhera, daughter of Rosami Uhera, discovers a method of collecting the senergy released from the deaths caused by the war allowing them to create a super dense soul fragment in a top secret project. Unbeknownst to Satchworth, Bedelia works with members of the government to use the super dense core in a bomb that will explode and then implode consuming and combing all human senergy not confined within the dome that protects Avnice, ultimately forming an even denser soul fragment for the Suncloud. While their original design will sustain Avnice’s flight for 20 years, members of the government want to sustain it for as long as possible seemingly having no plans to rehabilitate the planet’s surface.

The result is our current setting, the floating continent of Avnice. A corrupt government lead by Lemet Georges manipulates the population of just over one billion constantly widening the gap between rich and poor and their resulting quality of life. As a result, a rebellion brews in northern Avnice that hopes to disband and remove the corrupt government and bring peace and prosperity for all who live on the floating continent.

Each player is also equipped with a fountain of resources called bursts. Bursts have a variety of functions, and generally costs some bit of meter called Senergy. Senergy is earned by successfully attacking an opponent, and is lost when using bursts. Senergy can also be obtained from orbs, and a small amount is awarded when taking damage. Each stance has special moves or stance bursts which can be used to extend combos and enhance attack combinations. With the exception of Evade Bursts and Break Bursts, all bursts cost some amount of meter.
