Patch Notes 2024.04.11

It's been a long time (like 3yrs) and a lot of work, but I'm happy to say: Evolver officially has working rollback netcode!

I still have a lot to do to improve performance but the core functionality is in place and playable. There is ranked matchmaking as well as pvp lobbies (a room number is generated when you select your character that you can share). Additionally, if the game desyncs, it will give you the game state for the desync: feel free to post a screenshot in the bug-reports channel and I will work out these issues as they come in.

Online Modes & Rollback Netcode

  1. Standard Battle - Play ranked matches against online opponents. ELO is awarded based on the difference in the players current ranking
  2. Player Battle - Play casual matches with a specific person; the lobby number to share will be generated once you have selected your character. Players who select “Join Lobby” will be prompted for the lobby number to join your match.
  3. Cash Battle (not yet available) - Stake your EXO-credits in a tower like mode where more credits are required to battle on higher floors
  4. Stats (not yet available) - Review your combat and ranking stats for the current season.

Tutorial

  1. Tutorial mode is now available. The Tutorial tries to teach the majority of the games aspects from the basics to the advanced. More tutorials are planned, but in its current state, the tutorial teaches the following:
    1. Basic and Advanced Movement
    2. Attack Sequences, Attack Cancelling, Supers, and Super Combos
    3. All Defensive mechanics including Wakeups, Throw Breaks, Armor Attacks, and Clashes
    4. The HUD
    5. The Resilience System and the Fault Amplifier
  2. And the upcoming tutorials include
    1. Character Specific tutorials such as Soul Art and Combo Challenges with the default loadouts
    2. Tactics such as how to create longer and more damaging combos and how to escape corner pressure

General Patch Notes

  1. There is now a meter below the health bar for the Soul Amplifier which directly corresponds to the opponent's Fault Amplifier. This makes it easier to gauge what your character's current Soul Art manifestation is.
  2. Reflecting projectile attacks with weapons now more actively sends the projectile back toward the opponent
  3. Fixed a bug where command throws would complete animation on whiff
  4. Fixed a bug where destroy walls were not triggering bounce correctly
  5. Fixed a bug with Announcer voice on round start
  6. Fixed a bug which caused drastic frame rate drops when recording the bot in practice mode

Character Specific Changes

  1. Thadeo
    1. BigHandHeavyA is now a ground bouncing throw attack. Thadeo can side switch after successfully grabbing the opponent as with a DeB throw
  1. Gorbral
    1. HiddenPalmsHeavyA is now a two hitting air carry attack; it does not work well against grounded opponents but is great for combo extension and corner carry
    2. EchoKinesisHeavyA is now a ground bouncing dive kick. It works extremely well against grounded opponents and in neutral as it has a 4 frame startup and bounce damage does not scale
